[GALANT POETRY]. A collection of poems by various authors. Paris, Augustin Besoigne, 1670. In-16 (148 x 80 mm), cream half-vellum Bradel binding with corners edged in a gold fillet, smooth spine decorated with small metal stamps and a brown leather title label, gilt edges. 4 unnumbered folios (title page and table of contents) and 326 pages, with decorative elements (delicate headbands and tailpieces). Binding slightly soiled. A charming edition of this famous 17th-century collection of gallant and Baroque poetry, originally published in the 1650s–1660s and reprinted here under the direction of Augustin Besoigne. It brings together major works of the “précieux” style of the era. Pages 249 through 271 contain 14 pieces by Éléazar de Chandeville, Malherbe’s nephew, which appear to have been published only in this anthology. A fine copy in a charming 19th-century binding.
