MAUROIS, André. *Climats*. A copy belonging to the author’s son, featuring a touching dedication and a full leather binding by Granghaud, the family’s longtime bookbinder. Paris, Grasset, 1928. In-4 tellière, full red morocco, smooth spine decorated with a design composed of black lines and gold circles, a gilt fillet framing the covers, which feature a central geometric design of black and gilt fillets; an inner border framed by a black fillet; endpapers and double endpapers of red marbled paper; gilt head; covers and spine preserved. Binding by V. Granghaud. First edition of André Maurois’s literary masterpiece. A reprinted copy in in-4 tellière format on pure-thread vellum specially printed for the author’s son, the photographer Gérald Maurois (1920–1986), and enhanced with a beautiful autographed dedication on the half-title page: “To Gérald / wishing him a life in happy CLIMATES / affectionately.” A particularly touching provenance for this novel about jealousy, romantic misunderstanding, and incompatible temperaments. The narrator’s journey echoes that of André Maurois, who drew inspiration from his relationship with his first wife, Jane-Wanda de Szymkiewicz, the mother of Gérald Maurois. A beautiful copy.
