HENRIET, Frédéric. *Le Paysagiste aux champs*. Second edition, partly original, in a deluxe edition on tinted paper, featuring an engraved title page and 20 original etchings celebrating the Barbizon School. Paris, A. Lévy, 1876. Small quarto, paperback, illustrated cloth-covered binding, in a later black shagreen slipcase with corner pieces, spine with faux raised bands and gilt title. III and 238 pp. Engraved title page and 20 full-page etchings on laid paper. Cover slightly sun-faded and delicately restored at the top and bottom of the spine; slight foxing along the margins of the plates. Second edition, partly original, of these chronicles devoted to the Barbizon School and the artists’ colonies of the 19th century. It is adorned with a title engraved by Péquégnot and 20 original etchings by Camille Corot, Charles-François Daubigny, Maxime Lalanne, Alfred Taïée, and others. Limited edition of 135 numbered copies on tinted paper (no. 108). Frédéric Henriet (1826–1918), a lawyer by training, abandoned the courtroom out of a passion for the bohemian art scene and became the private secretary of the Imperial Museums. Converted to plein air painting by his mentor Daubigny, he spent his life roaming the forests with his easel, establishing himself as the official confidant and chronicler of the 19th-century landscape revolution. A fine copy, as published, preserved in a later slim slipcase.
