DUTOURD, Jean. Doucin. Confession. A beautiful, out-of-print copy bound in blue vellum, featuring a double dedication to the Maurois family and a signed autograph letter to Simone André Maurois. Paris, Gallimard, 1955. In-12, half-havana morocco with corner pieces, spine with two raised bands, gilt head, untrimmed, covers and spine intact. 251 pp. Covers intact, slightly browned at the edges. First edition of this novel, which dissects the hypocrisy of the bourgeoisie and the cynicism of the Parisian literary scene. One of 20 unnumbered, out-of-print copies on colored vellum (No. 1), this one on blue paper specially printed for Simone and André Maurois. It is enhanced by a double autograph dedication signed by the author: the first to Simone and André Maurois in black ink, and the second, written later in blue ink and dated December 5, 1974, to Gérald Maurois. The copy also includes an autograph letter signed by Jean Dutour to Madame André Maurois, to whom he sent an article on the “coquette” that was to appear in Fémina magazine (2 pages, in-8 format, on NRF letterhead, with envelope). A beautiful copy, featuring Simone André Maurois’s bookplate.
