[CURIOSA] APOLLINAIRE, Guillaume. The Exploits of a Young Don Juan. An underground edition of Apollinaire’s famous erotic novel. A fine copy of the first edition, containing 4 etched plates. London [Amsterdam], 1949. In-12 (190 x 124 mm), paperback, untrimmed, in a plain slipcase and a pale yellow paper case. 115 pp., 4 plates engraved on loose sheets. A carefully produced edition, entirely out of print and reserved for subscribers. First published clandestinely and anonymously in 1911, this masterpiece of the erotic novel depicts the unvarnished carnal initiation of a teenage boy in the countryside, driven by an obsessive quest for the female sex. Limited edition of 375 copies on cream-colored Rives laid paper; this is one of the first 25 copies (no. XXV), enhanced with a superb set of 4 loose plates (out of 5), finely etched in linework, typical of high-end postwar underground erotic publications. [Dutel, 1539]. Uncut copy, in excellent condition.
