[CURIOSA]. Around Paulette’s Marriage, or A Modernist Marriage. A rare, first edition of this risqué novel, printed anonymously on fine laid paper and illustrated with a frontispiece and five explicit plates. Montreal [Amsterdam], Lebaucher [Brancart], 1893. In-8 (135 x 190 mm) in Bradel binding, khaki-green half-percaline, smooth spine adorned with a special gilt iron depicting two birds in love, title label in blue leather framed by double gilt fillets, covers of pebbled paper. 158 pages and 2 unnumbered folios (table of contents), 1 frontispiece and 5 engraved plates, black headbands and footers. Binding scuffed, tears on the upper cover, lower seams slightly fragile on the first few leaves, very rare pinholes, paper of the plates slightly browned. A rare first edition on fine laid paper of this erotic novel, the first in a trilogy published anonymously under the false address of Lebaucher in Montreal. It is illustrated with a frontispiece and 5 loose engraved plates. The author dedicates this work to wives “who know only the simplest and poorest of melodies from the immense and rich musical score of voluptuousness [...] to the ladies whose clitoris has never stiffened, who feel nothing but disgust at fucking, whose ass has never been shaken by divine pleasure. [...] Worn-out or elderly men, who can no longer insert their cocks into a cunt except with a spoon, like soft, soggy marzipan” (dedication). [Dutel, 1, 307.] A pleasant copy with a clean and fresh interior.
