COCTEAU, Jean. Clair-Obscur. Poems. First edition, enhanced by a precious autographed dedication from the poet to Raymond Queneau. Monaco, Éditions du Rocher, 1954. In-8 (204 x 144 mm), paperback, cover printed in black and red. 200 pages. Spine slightly warped, two small tears on the back of the cover, paper slightly browned at the margins, as is often the case. First edition. Press copy featuring a beautiful autographed dedication by Jean Cocteau: “To Raymond Queneau, this ‘organism,’ with the friendship of ‘the organist,’ Jean * 1954.” Jean Cocteau (1889–1963) and Raymond Queneau (1903–1976) shared an intellectual bond rooted in a love of words. Their collaboration began at Éditions Gallimard, where Queneau—who joined as a reader in 1938 and became general secretary in 1941—closely followed Cocteau’s publications, such as *Les Parents terribles* (1938) and *La Fin du Potomak* (1940). In 1954, the year of this dedication, Queneau took over as director of the Pléiade series. A very complete copy, including the insert, which is often missing.
