Paris, published by François Clousier, 1665. 2 parts in 1 quarto volume (231 x 170 mm), brown calfskin, ribbed spine, panels decorated with small gilt ironwork, gilt title. 4 unnumbered folios (title page, preface, table of contents, and privilege) and 212 pp., 58 engraved plates. Some stains and normal wear on the binding; faded gilt; foxing; browning; and marginal water stains. First edition of this comprehensive guide to reading the future in the hands. The first part explains the theory (the shape of the fingers, the nails, and the influence of the planets). The second part details the practice: it shows how to analyze the major lines (Life, Heart, Head) and the mounds of the palm (the mounts of Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury) to predict a person’s health, character, and destiny.
