[CARTOON] VEBER, Jean and Pierre. *Les Veber's*. First edition of this satirical panorama of the Belle Époque, combining Jean Veber’s talent as a cartoonist with his brother Pierre’s humorous wit. This copy is enhanced with four autograph documents related to this edition. Paris, Émile Testard, 1895. In-4 (195 x 280 mm), paperback, color-illustrated cover. 182 pages, over 300 black-and-white drawings in the text. Minor scuffing on the cover. First edition and first print run in book form of the abundant illustrations by Jean Veber (1868–1928), a contributor to *Le Rire* and *L'Assiette au Beurre*, based on texts by his brother, the journalist and playwright Pierre Veber (1869–1942). It offers a humorous satire on social mores, politics, the press, and celebrities of the late 19th century. This copy is enhanced with four signed autograph items: - an autograph letter signed by Émile Testard addressed to Jean and Pierre Weber setting forth the terms of the contract (1½ pages, quarto, on printed letterhead of L’Edition Nationale, May 29, 1895) - a memorandum by Émile Testard detailing the print run and payment terms (1 page, quarto, with a handwritten note, on the printed letterhead of L'Edition Nationale, January 14, 1896) - a receipt for a second installment signed by Jean Veber (half a page, in-12, August 31, 1895) - an autograph letter signed by Jean Veber regarding the price of three of his prints.
