BUTOR, Michel and BALTAZAR. *Filaments sensibles*. First edition in a limited print run of this high-level dialogue between textual poetry and visual abstraction. Paris, Luc Moreau, 1981. Small in-4 format, loose-leaf, illustrated cover with flaps, Rhodoid, folder, and light wood-grain paper slipcase. Unpaginated (approximately 40 pages), 11 drypoint prints on PVC, printed in full color to the edge. First edition featuring 11 original drypoint prints by Baltazar, including 9 double-page prints, all signed in graphite. Limited edition of only 67 copies, numbered on Arches vellum (No. 16) and signed by the author and the artist. This artist’s book is the result of a close collaboration between Michel Butor (1926–2016), a leading figure of the Nouveau Roman, and the painter-engraver Julius Baltazar (born in 1949), whose dazzling graphic style pushes the boundaries of printmaking—here by using a softer PVC substrate that lends the lines a velvety depth, echoing the textual “filaments.” In excellent condition.
