[DECORATIVE ARTS - FURNITURE MAKING]. Set of three series of original drawings. Sideboards—Dining Room; Cabinets—Display Cases—Bookcases in the Louis XIV, XV, and XVI styles. ; Console tables—sideboards, chests of drawers—Louis XIV & XVI dressing tables. An exceptional workshop collection comprising 207 original drawings, documenting the creation of high-quality furniture during the Second Empire. S.l.s.é.n.d. [circa 1860–1870]. Three portfolios in oblong folio format (350 x 270 mm), bound in red percaline, with plain, unmarked spines; front covers adorned with gold-embossed titles indicating the categories of furniture, fastened with ribbons. 30, 71, and 106 plates (for a total of 207 plates). Percaline is faded; the binding edges are cracked. The plates show signs of handling: marks, creases, and some plates have tears along the edges. A few foxing spots. An important collection of cabinetmaking workshop drawings and furniture designs in the Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI styles. It comprises 207 plates of beautifully executed drawings, primarily rendered in graphite with numerous highlights in watercolor, gouache, and wash. These pieces are executed on various types of media (heavy or fine vellum, blue cardstock, rice paper) in a variety of sizes. The designs, drawn to precise scale, often bear the handwritten notation “Au dixième,” as well as dimension specifications and technical notes on materials. A few rare drawings mention the name of the client in the upper corner (“Sellier,” “Lançon,” etc.). Some plates depict furniture from the D’Auteuil and Lemarchand houses. One plate bears the cabinetmaker’s wet stamp: “Maison E. Roudillon, rue Caumartin.” A beautiful collection, constituting a valuable historical record.
