[ART NOUVEAU] LEFLER, Heinrich, and URBAN, Joseph. Fairy Tale Calendar for 1905. A superb Jugendstil calendar, famous for its enchanting collaborative illustrations by Lefler and Urban. Vienna, M. Munk, n.d. [1905]. Square quarto (252 x 244 mm), paperback, illustrated cover. Unpaginated (30 pages), 12 full-color plates. Spine slightly sun-faded; small marginal ink inscription on the upper cover flap; crease on the lower cover flap. First French edition of this famous Jugendstil calendar. Each month features a famous fairy tale, set to verse by Jean Jullien, accompanied by a magnificent color plate enhanced with ornamental borders: Cinderella, Snow White, Rose-Belle, The Frog Prince, The Swan, The Goose Girl, The Nymph, The Virgin and the Child, Rapunzel, etc. One immediately recognizes in these compositions the distinctive style of the legendary Viennese artist duo Heinrich Lefler (1863–1919) and Joseph Urban (1872–1933). Their collaborative work is characterized by the use of delicate pastel colors, very slender silhouettes, flowing hair, and dense ornamentation, punctuated by repeated symbolic and geometric figures. In good condition.
