[AERONAUTICS]. 2nd Grand Aviation Week of Champagne. A photo album featuring 38 photographs and including the official program from 1910. S.l.n.é [Reims Cooperative Press], 1910. Folio size, half-bound in publisher’s pine-green percaline; covers of pine-green paper embellished with an illustrated band and cream-colored paper corners. 80 pp. and 38 black-and-white photographs mounted on 19 sheets of sturdy brown cardboard. A few foxing spots on the front cover; the binding is slightly rubbed; corners are worn; the top margin of the first sheet has been restored. An excellent illustrated book, dedicated to the Marquis de Polignac, who financed the organizing committee for this Reims air show. G.H. Laignier’s technical account is accompanied by humorous portraits by the caricaturist Mich and decorative compositions by the painter E. Auger. The 38 period photographs provide a vivid glimpse of the on-site organization, the crowds of visitors, and the first airplanes in flight. Included is: The official program for the Grande Semaine d’Aviation de la Champagne, illustrated on the cover with a lithograph showing Reims Cathedral with airplanes flying overhead (in-8 booklet, printed by Debar in Reims, 18 pp.). A beautiful set.
