BERNHOEFT. A very interesting photograph of a Romani woman by Charles Bernhoeft, ca. 1895. A photograph of a Romani woman is featured in the reference work by Edmond THILL & Co-authors—Charles BERNHOEFT, *Photographe de la Belle Époque*, Figure 147, page 301, but it appears staged and the subject seems artificial. Here, however, the gaze and pose suggest a real Romani woman who might have been part of the Jéinesch community or a traveling troupe passing through for the Schobermesse. Visiting-card size.
