1968 - M1 Chemical Landmine Canister. Metal canister, complete with carrying handle and cap. 90% gray paint remaining. Double green band wrapping around the canister. Stencil markings: HDGAS. EAS43 Lot 38A 1144. Empty. Two metal rods are present on the back of the canister. Empty. This mine was designed to release persistent mustard gas to render the terrain impassable to the enemy. It was buried or placed on the ground. A small detonator would shatter the canister to spray the chemical liquid into the surrounding area. Note slight wear and patina on the item. Condition I.
