Bracelets from the Greek (Doric) civilizations, first millennium B.C. Bronze. Measurements: 58 and 61 mm (diameter). Base: 7 cm. Provenance: Family legacy of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Archaeological collection formed from the 1950s by successive generations of the family, through acquisitions in European galleries and auction houses. A set of bronze bracelets from the Greek (Doric) settlements, which persisted on the Anatolian peninsula from the fall of the Hittite Empire until the Achaemenid (Persian) occupation, dating to the first millennium B.C. The bracelets are made of bronze in a circular cross-section, with ends shaped like animal heads, typical of this period and culture. A transition can be observed between what would be considered the Syro-Hittite cultures—characterized by robust craftsmanship and details that are more incised than carved—and what would be the later Achaemenid culture, marked by much more subtle execution and significantly thinner shanks.
