CUERVO Y SOBRINOS watch. 18k gold chronograph wristwatch. Havana, circa 1940–1950. Circular 18-karat yellow gold case, hallmarked, with stylized lugs. Ivory-colored dial signed “Cuervo y Sobrinos, Havana, Sole Importers,” with Arabic numerals and applied hour markers in a gold tone. Blued blade-style hands and central chronograph seconds hand. Bicompax chronograph configuration, with two subsidiary dials located at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions, corresponding to the minute counter and the small seconds sub-dial. Perimeter tachymeter and telemeter scales, with graduations in blue and red. A fluted crown at the 3 o’clock position—not original—flanked by two rectangular pushers for operating the chronograph. Hand-wound mechanical movement. It works, though it requires servicing. Shows signs of wear and a patina consistent with its age, with some discoloration on the dial. Weight: 37 g. Measurements: 40 x 45 mm. Provenance: Family bequest of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. An art and heritage collection whose origins lie in the legacy of the Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a key figure in 19th-century Catalan realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched over successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original estates of both artists, along with new acquisitions made by their descendants. They remained particularly dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the family legacy, acquiring works by the painters themselves as they came onto the market and gradually expanding the collection with paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other objects of artistic and historical interest.
