OMEGA Automatic. Switzerland, 1960s. Vintage 18k yellow gold wristwatch. Circular case with a polished bezel, straight lugs, and a fluted crown at the 3 o’clock position. Silvered dial with applied triangular hour markers and gold-tone Dauphine-style hands. Central seconds hand and minute track around the perimeter. Swiss automatic mechanical movement, Omega caliber 552. Brown leather strap (not original) with a metal buckle clasp. It works, but it needs servicing. The case shows signs of wear and superficial scratches. The dial has a pronounced patina and stains. Total gross weight of the watch: 38 g. Measurements: 33 mm (case diameter, excluding crown); 30 mm (dial diameter). Provenance: Family bequest of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. An art and heritage collection whose origins lie in the legacy of the Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a key figure in 19th-century Catalan realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched over successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original estates of both artists, along with new acquisitions made by their descendants. They remained particularly dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the family legacy, acquiring works by the painters themselves as they came onto the market and gradually expanding the collection with paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other objects of artistic and historical interest. During the 1950s and 1960s, Omega consolidated its position among the leading Swiss watch manufacturers, thanks to its prestige in chronometry, the reliability of its movements, and a history of innovation that would culminate in NASA’s selection of the Speedmaster in 1965. The automatic Caliber 552 dates from this period; introduced in 1958, it belongs to the renowned 550 family, one of the brand’s most iconic mechanical series. Equipped with an automatic winding rotor, 24 jewels, and a frequency of 19,800 vibrations per hour, it stands out for its solid construction and its significance in Omega’s mid-20th-century production. In the watch descriptions, when it states “it works,” it means the watch is functioning. Since collector’s watches typically have delicate and complex mechanisms, the buyer is responsible for any general servicing, inspection, battery replacement, adjustment, or repair that may be necessary. We do not guarantee the perfect functioning of any watch. All photographs of our watches are original and have been taken by our photographers; in other words, we do not use stock photography, which is why the photographs are considered part of the catalog listing.
