NARCÍS MARTÍ CABOT (Barcelona, c. 1889–1914). "Garden." Oil on canvas. Signed “N. Martí Cabot” in the lower right corner. Measurements: 51 × 71 cm; 59 × 89 cm (frame). Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. This work depicts a lush garden crossed by a path that draws the eye toward a group of cypress trees, which are marked by large branches that hang, contrasting with the large tree with hanging branches that dominates the foreground. The composition, marked by a strong naturalistic sensibility, stands out for its treatment of light and atmosphere, as well as for its loose brushwork and a palette of greens, ochres, and earthy tones. Its execution reflects the influence of late-19th-century Catalan landscape painting, combining direct observation of nature with an intimate and evocative interpretation of the landscape. Narcís Martí Cabot, son of Ricard Martí Aguiló and grandson of Ramon Martí Alsina—a key figure in the renewal of Catalan realist painting—had a brief artistic career as a painter and draftsman. His work continues the family’s naturalist tradition, characterized by an interest in landscape and direct observation of reality. At the same time, he pursued illustration, with works published in periodicals of the time such as *La Ilustración Artística*. His untimely death in Barcelona in 1914, at the age of twenty-five, cut short a career linked to one of the leading artistic dynasties of contemporary Catalonia.
