RICARD MARTÍ AGUILÓ (Barcelona, 1868–1936). Landscape. Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 89 x 50 cm; 98 x 57 cm (frame). Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. In this work, the artist depicts a lush forest traversed by a river, featuring figures absorbed in the flow of the water. The use of small brushstrokes transforms the sunset scene into a deeply romantic evocation. Ricardo Martí trained at the Escuela de la Lonja in Barcelona and in the studio of his father, the painter Ramón Martí Alsina. He held several solo exhibitions, participated in group shows, and entered various art competitions, such as the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. He won a gold medal at the “Plants and Flowers” exhibition (1895), a bronze medal at the 1896 Barcelona Exhibition, and a second medal at the Spanish National Exhibition held in Mexico in 1910. He also taught drawing and painting in the town of Grecia. Specializing in still lifes and flower arrangements, he also painted portraits and seascapes. His works are currently included in various private collections.
