This significant improvement was the result of ongoing collaboration, which began in 1921, within the Yvel company (Lévy and Monnier). The innovation was conceived by the well-known engineer Mr. Marsat and developed by the renowned technician Mr. Monnier. Hauts-de-Seine/Île-de-France Pierre Couronne had a long career as a commercial artist in Paris. Passionate about drawing and painting, this native of Salindro (Gard, Occitanie) moved to Paris at a very young age (1946) to put his talents to use—talents he had honed while attending the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. A little later, he specialized in illustrations for advertisements, the most famous of which promoted the Bic ballpoint pen, Omo laundry detergent, luxury goods, and many others, such as the national lottery under the pseudonym Pierrot. He was an illustrator of children’s books. In the late 1970s, he chose to return to live in his native Cévennes.
