STRASBOURG - c.1955 A very pretty plaque, 100% Strasbourg-made. Rare, original, flat enamel plaque with raised edges. 47 x 35.5 cm. “Emaillerie Alsacienne Strasbourg” This plaque faithfully reproduces a 1930s painting by the famous illustrator HANSI. At the time, these pieces were given as complimentary gifts to customers. (Bibliographic reference: *L’émaillerie Alsacienne de Strasbourg* by Pierre Meyer). In excellent condition - The enamel is distinguished by its superbly vibrant colors and magnificent original luster. There are five small, localized chips that have been discreetly touched up with paint; these are visible upon close inspection but do not detract from the piece’s overall aesthetic. Strasbourg Cathedral is an absolute masterpiece of Gothic art, built primarily between 1015 and 1439; this “marvel of the immense and the delicate ” (Victor Hugo), was shaped by a succession of great master builders, foremost among whom was the famous 13th-century architect Erwin von Steinbach. The true beating heart of the city, this centuries-old monument, built of pink Vosges sandstone, embodies for the people of Strasbourg the ultimate symbol of their identity, their resilience, and the rich cultural crossroads of the Rhine region.
