CARLTON HOTEL—Juan-les-Pins—c. 1920–30 Rare original hotel sign/menu holder from the French Riviera. 55 x 37 cm. “Manin—Acquasciati. R. Haxo 11a - Marseille.” Good condition—made of solid engraved brass with red and black highlights. Very beautiful original patina. Mounting hardware on the back. There are slight traces of oxidation on the left side. The upper cartouche is engraved with “CARLTON HOTEL / JUAN-LES-PINS (A.M.) / TEL: 4-67.” Rich Art Deco decoration combining pine branches and pineapples (pineapples symbolizing wealth and hospitality at that time), arcature friezes, and a stylized fruit bowl. Rectangular central window for displaying the daily menu, with a perforated wall-mounting bracket at the base. This object attests to the existence of a commercial establishment operating under the official name “Carlton Hotel” in Juan-les-Pins during the interwar period. Since there is no major independent luxury hotel listed under that name, this menu holder indicates the presence of an annex or a luxury restaurant operated on the fringes of the legendary Carlton in Cannes to attract the high-society clientele of La Pinède, unless it was a short-lived, mid-range hotel-restaurant that used the famous franchise prior to World War II. A rare and authentic historical artifact from the Roaring Twenties. Please note: The hotel luggage tag visible in the last photo is presented solely for historical illustration purposes and is not included in the sale. The first photo, generated by AI, is a purely fictional scenario designed to help you visualize the object in its original setting at the time.
