SPIDOLÉINE OIL - c. 1930–35 Rare original double-sided lithographed advertising sheet metal with a right-angled fold, shaped like a flag. 55.2 x 34 cm. Printed by “Hirschfled frères Strasbourg” In good overall condition— The colors remain vibrant; this sheet retains a satin patina and shows traces of the original protective paper on one side. There are very subtle surface imperfections and scattered minor traces of oxidation, as well as a slight deformation at one corner, which in no way detracts from the superb quality of the image. In 1877, Alexandre André, a native of Yssingeaux, founded the Société Anonyme A. André Fils (SAAF) and began importing mineral oils. Having become one of France’s leading petroleum importers, he initially refined it for industrial use before specializing, at the turn of the 20th century, in the manufacture of high-quality oils for the nascent automobile industry. Launched shortly after World War I, the Spidoléine brand quickly rose to the top of the engine lubricants market thanks to its technical achievements at the Linas-Montlhéry racetrack, where its oils set 15 world records. Recommended at the time by leading automakers such as Peugeot, the brand faded from the market in the mid-20th century. Haute-Loire/Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
