Aslan was a famous illustrator for the erotic magazine LUI and the official painter of the French Army, known worldwide for his iconic depictions of the era’s biggest stars (Brigitte Bardot, France Gall, Sheila, Dalida, Françoise Hardy…). This historic image refers to the large-scale gas station and truck stop established by Esso at the heart of the Garonor Logistics Center upon its opening in 1970. Designed to streamline traffic at Europe’s largest road freight hub, this pioneering “Truck Stop” offered high-throughput lanes, auto repair shops, and rest areas for truck drivers. The term “Esso Stop” was used at the time to identify a station perfectly suited to the size of heavy-duty trucks, marking the advent of automated professional services in the 1970s.
