HUTCHINSON BICYCLE AND MOTORCYCLE TIRES - c. 1940 According to “Mich” (not named). Rare original double-sided lithographed advertising sheet metal with a right-angled flap. 48.5 x 45.5 cm. In excellent condition— Remarkable intensity of the original colors, which remain vivid, luminous, and exceptionally well-preserved, particularly the red tones with their striking depth (more pronounced on one side). The piece has retained its beautiful original luster. There are only very subtle traces of oxidation on one side and fine scratches on the other—minor marks that in no way detract from the superb aesthetic quality of this beautiful piece. It depicts the knife sharpener Sam and his faithful dog, Floc, with a light brown coat, viewed from the front. Hutchinson was founded in 1853 in Châlette-sur-Loing, 100 km south of Paris, by Hiram Hutchinson. This American entrepreneur, a recent immigrant to France, had filed the first French patent for rubber vulcanization, the basis for the manufacture of our first product: “A l’Aigle” boots, designed to keep feet dry. In 1890, Hutchinson shifted to manufacturing bicycle tires. By 1905, Hutchinson had already turned his attention to the automotive sector. In 1910, Hutchinson entered the aeronautics industry.
