NESTLÉ - c.1930 Signed “ARNOLD” Rare, original, domed enamel advertising sign. 49.3 x 34.6 cm. “L'Émaillo-gravure-Paris” A very fine example— distinguished by fantastic colors and superb original luster. The color work is remarkable, particularly on the baby’s face, where the reds are perfectly preserved and retain their original freshness. There are simply a few minor chips of enamel located at three of the corners and very, very fine, scattered, translucent micro-scratches—slight signs of wear that in no way detract from the piece’s superb visual quality. The story begins in 1866 with the Anglo-Swiss condensed milk factory, joined in 1867 by Henri Nestlé’s milk powder business in Vevey. Of German origin, his surname means “little nest” and shares the same root as the English word “nest.” Drawing direct inspiration from his family coat of arms (which depicted a solitary bird on a nest), he added three chicks to create his emblem as early as 1868. To protect his products from counterfeits, this logo was officially registered as a trademark for the first time in 1875 in Vevey. Nestlé entered the chocolate market in 1904, then merged with Anglo-Swiss in 1905 to form the current Nestlé Group. Canton of Vaud/Riviera-Pays-d’Enhaut/Switzerland
