LE CUVIER SOAP - ANASTAY FRÈRES - c. 1900 Rare original lithographed advertising card featuring its almanac calendar. 45 x 31 cm. “Imp. F. Champenois, Paris” In very fine condition— With fresh, vivid, and deep colors. There are subtle, minute marks along the margins, as well as a very fine, superficial vertical scratch down the center—transparent and having no impact whatsoever on the superb legibility of the lithograph. Depicting an elegant Belle Époque bourgeois woman, finely rendered. Wearing a fur-trimmed hat, adorned with jewelry, and clad in a red fur coat, she holds a bar of Le Cuvier extra-pure soap in her gloved right hand. The composition is framed by an Art Nouveau-style frieze around the edges of the sign. The Anastay Frères soap factory was founded in 1881 in Marseille: “Le Cuvier” brand soap, as well as La Poissonnière, La Couturière, Sainte Réparate, La Française, La Créole, Le Caïd, Le Volcan, Le Bronzé, and Le Noir soaps.
