ABSINTHE A.JUNOD - c.1900 - RED Version - Rare original ceramic advertising pyrogen. 9 x 8.7 cm. In very good condition—the lettering is remarkably fresh, and the red color, in particular, is perfectly preserved with all of its original pigments intact, appearing vivid and deep. No major flaws to report. Normal signs of wear, with some fading of the gold trim along the edges. PYROGEN: A vintage 1900s bistro item designed to be placed on tables to hold matches, which were struck against its rough surface, and to display an advertisement. Founded in Pontarlier in 1838 by Henri-Auguste Junod, the company was taken over by his son Arthur Junod in 1870. Following the ban on absinthe in France in 1915, the assets and brands of this illustrious distillery in the Haut-Doubs region were acquired and subsequently integrated into the Pernod Fils Réunis group.
