ANIMATED INFLATABLE MICHELIN BIBENDUM - c.1970 A superb and rare original electric advertising automaton made of nylon fabric. Approximately 105 x 80 x 60 cm when the inflatable Bibendum is fully extended. The shipping case measures 38 x 38 x 34.5 cm - In very good condition - Original wooden case stamped “232,” original internal label; everything is original and fully functional (tested). Powered by a 220-volt electric motor and a turbine housed in its base, this nylon Bibendum comes to life in a cyclical pattern. These inflatable Bibendum figures were displayed indoors, in dealerships, at gas stations, at auto shows and trade fairs, and in garage windows to catch the eye of passersby. In 1886, André Michelin and his brother Édouard Michelin took over the family business, Barbier-Daubrée.
