MOBILOEL “DM” – c. 1925–30 “Hamburg” Rare, original conical promotional oil can made of lithographed sheet metal. Capacity: 0.5 liters. Height: 22 cm. Sealed, never opened, and still contains its original oil with no leaks. The lithography displays good color and decent gloss. There are slight distortions in places and traces of oxidation. Depicts a motorcycle and a car at full speed in the lower portion. Mobiloil traces its origins to the late 19th century in the United States, within the Vacuum Oil Company, which was affiliated with Standard Oil, founded by John D. Rockefeller. After the breakup of Standard Oil in 1911, the Standard Oil Company of New York (Socony) became one of the group’s successors. As early as 1904, the brand used the figure of the gargoyle for its lubricants. In the 1930s, following the Socony-Vacuum merger, the famous winged Pegasus—a symbol of speed and modernity—appeared and became the emblem of Mobiloil.
