UMBRELLA - REVEL - c. 1922 Signed “after Cappiello 1922” Rare original double-sided enamel advertising plaque with a right-angled back. 65 x 44 cm. “Émaillerie Alsacienne Strasbourg” This piece is in exceptional condition, close to its original, like-new state— Both sides display masterful vibrancy and spectacular colors, with absolute vividness and luminosity. The contrast between the deep black, brown, and the vibrant yellow background is strikingly clear. The heavy, thick enamel surface retains its original mirror-like shine, which is absolutely remarkable and shows no signs of deterioration. A few original firing irregularities are present, which is quite common. It features the iconic design created in 1922 by Leonetto Cappiello for *Les Nouvelles Affiches Cappiello*. Contrasting colors, dynamic graphics—sleek and effective—pure “Cappiello” at its finest. An umbrella and parasol manufacturer founded in Lyon on October 2, 1851, by François Revel. Born in 1810 in the Ain department, Revel trained in Lyon starting in 1830 with the umbrella manufacturer Poncet Frères before launching his own company, whose official brand name, “Parapluie Revel,” was registered in 1900 for the French market.
