- LANVIN CHOCOLATE - c. 1930 “The White Bird” Original double-sided enamel advertising sign with a right-angled back panel. 45 x 30 cm. “Emaillerie Alsacienne Strasbourg” In very good condition - The enamel is superbly fresh, with the colors fantastically well-preserved and optimal luster on both sides. The text on each side remains perfectly legible. There are only very minor imperfections along the edges, as well as slight damage to the enamel in the sky-blue background on the right side of one face. A small hole in the far upper corner of the right-angle bend is worth noting, though it has no impact on the enamel or the overall legibility. The Lanvin chocolate maker created a commercial line in the late 1920s as a direct marketing tribute to the feat and sacrifice of the pilots of the “L’oiseau blanc” aircraft, Charles Nungesser and François Coli, following their tragic disappearance in May 1927. Originally from the North of France, the Lanvin family produced sugar before relocating their business in 1912 to Brazey-en-Plaine to escape competition. In 1921, the family acquired a small chocolate factory in Dijon on Rue Chabot-Charny, founding the “Sucrerie Bourguignonne et Chocolaterie Lanvin S.A.” The company gained national fame in 1934 thanks to a major technical innovation: the creation of the legendary and timeless chocolate “Escargot de Bourgogne.” Côte d’Or/Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
