TRIPLE SHELL - c.1950-55 “Motor Oil S.A.E. 50” Rare original promotional motor oil carton made of waxed cardboard/single-use, conical in shape, with a circular base and a flat, sealed top. Capacity: 1 liter. 24 cm tall and 10.5 cm in diameter at the base. In excellent condition— The original colors are perfectly preserved and look very fresh. This specimen is still filled with its original motor oil and has never been opened; it is in an exceptional, sealed condition. Designed at the time as single-use packaging made of waterproof cardboard, this disposable model was intended to be immediately destroyed after use, making its survival and preservation today extremely rare. The name “Shell” first appeared in 1891 for oil marketed in the Far East by Marcus Samuel, a London merchant from a family that specialized in the trade of shells, antiques, and more… The Shell Transport and Trading Company was founded in 1897 and adopted the scallop shell as its emblem in 1904. In 1907, its merger with the Royal Dutch Petroleum Company, founded in the Netherlands in 1890, gave rise to the Royal Dutch Shell Group. In France, the group partnered with Maison Deutsch de la Meurthe in 1922 to create the Société des Pétroles Jupiter, which became Shell Française in 1948.
