BANANIA - c.1932 Signed “G.Elisabeth” Rare and superb original lithographed advertising card. 41.7 x 28.8 cm. “Imp.Bedos & Cie. Paris” In very fine condition - The colors are beautifully preserved and retain their original luster. There is only some wear on the upper right corner and very subtle imperfections in the image, which do not affect its aesthetic appeal. The image is perfectly crisp and very beautiful: a high-quality specimen. Registered on August 31, 1914, by industrialist Pierre Lardet (born in Mâcon), the Banania brand launched its first advertisement on November 12, 1914, in *Excelsior*, disproving the legend that it was created in 1912 by a pharmacist from Courbevoie. The product’s first emblem, initially named “La Banania,” featured a woman from the Antilles designed by Tishon. In the midst of the war, Lardet shifted his business strategy toward patriotism and, on August 31, 1915, registered the famous poster of the Senegalese tirailleur designed by De Andréis. The company, financed by Madame Fillion beginning in 1916, became a corporation in 1920, leading to the founder’s ouster by his business partner Albert Viallat.
