Anton Richter, Summer Landscape in the Foothills An idyllic scene featuring a farming couple in front of their farmhouse, mowing a meadow by the lakeside, with a distant view of imposing snow-capped high mountain peaks, impasto landscape painting with broad brushstrokes in vibrant colours, oil on canvas and stretcher frame, signed and dated ‘Anton Richter 1943’ in the lower right-hand corner, shows signs of age, unframed, dimensions approx. 60.5 x 83.5 cm. Artist’s biography: German painter and draughtsman (1900 Schwarzenbach/Saale - 1962 Schwarzenbach); initially trained as a confectioner, worked in his parents’ dye works from 1920 to 1923; initially self-taught in art; studied at the Academy in Munich from 1938 to 1941; from 1939 a pupil of Adolf Schinnerer; from 1949 a regular participant in the annual major German art exhibition at the Haus der Kunst in Munich; member of the Franconian Artists’ Association, the Free Group of Bayreuth and the New Munich Artists’ Cooperative; In 1958, he was awarded the Albrecht Dürer Prize by the City of Nuremberg; he worked in Schwarzenbach/Saale.
