Max Oehler, Autumnal Landscape View of a terrace nestled amongst foliage; behind it, a glimpse of the approaching autumn, depicted by the leaves changing from green to yellow to red; on the left, a few birch trees frame this side; an Impressionist-style, slightly impasto painting with swift brushstrokes, oil on canvas, signed lower right, inscribed ‘Weimar’ and dated 1911, signs of wear, in a wide period wooden frame, showing minimal scuffing, inner dimensions 29.5 x 37 cm. Artist information: German landscape painter, graphic artist and designer (1881, Eisenach - 1943, Weimar), a pupil at the Eisenach School of Applied Arts and Drawing under Prof. Kugel and Hertel; later studied in Munich and was a pupil of Prof. Brunner in Kassel; and finally, from 1901, continued his training at the Grand Ducal Art School in Weimar under Hans Olde; from 1907, he worked as a freelance artist in his own studio in Weimar.
