Jane Vivian, Venetian Landscape In a Venetian harbour bay, a bustle of traders, fishermen and children; on the left, a row of houses; on the right, several boats by the water; in the centre of the background, a view of the monastic island of San Lazzaro, behind which lies the coastline; a very beautiful, atmospheric view of an unidentifiable harbour in the Venetian Lagoon, somewhat reminiscent of William Turner’s Venetian paintings, with very fresh colours; oil on canvas, second half of the 19th century, signed lower left, restored, gold frame, inner dimensions 46 x 82 cm. Artist information: British artist (dates of life unknown), active between 1860 and 1890, daughter of the painter John Victor de Fleury; documented exhibition history from 1869 at the Society of British Artists and at other English exhibitions; best known for her Venetian vedute.
