Georg Schmitgen, Moorland at Sunrise a vast moorland landscape, with several small, scattered trees in the background, the horizon marked by a forest edge; on the left-hand side of the picture, roe deer; the clouds bathed in a delicate pink by the sun and reflected in the water; a slightly impressionistic rendering; oil on canvas, late 19th century, signed lower left, previously restored, signs of age, frame slightly bumped, inner dimensions 65 x 100 cm. Artist information: Prussian landscape and marine painter (1856 in Bernkastel to 1903 in Potsdam), trained at the Academy in Munich under Gabriel von Hackl and Alois Gabl and in Berlin under Eugen Bracht; settled in Berlin after completing his studies, where he mainly painted landscapes of Central Germany and Brandenburg as well as scenes of the Baltic Sea coast.
