Charles Leaver, attributed, Monastery in a Winter Landscape View of a frozen weir in winter, on the left, a hunter with a dachshund in a snow-covered woodland scene; in the background on the left, a British Gothic church complex (this is probably Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England; the church is now known as ‘Shakespeare’s Church’, as the British author was both baptised and buried here), a very finely painted, large-format winter landscape, oil on canvas, dated 1876 in the centre at the bottom left and subsequently inscribed ‘C. Leaver’, stretcher and frame taped, restored, retouched, gold frame showing minimal wear, inner dimensions approx. 70 x 112 cm. Provenance: Roseberys London, auction 23 September 2020, lot 211.
