562 - Two Chinese Kraak blue and white plates, Wanli (1573-1620), each of lobed form, the centre painted with two horses in a garden or a bird standing on a rock by a chrysanthemum, enclosed by a border of interlocking tulip heads and lotuses (20 and 20.5cm diameter) (2) Provenance: The Private Collection of Michael George Kuczynski (1941-2025), Cambridgeshire. Footnote: The tulip became a popular motif on porcelain produced for the Dutch market, subsequently influencing Chinese porcelain production at Jingdezhen.
