Artist information: Rhineland landscape painter (1789 in Ehrenbretstein to 1855 in Andernach), self-taught, lived in Koblenz, Ehrenbretstein and Cologne; alongside his painting, he also worked at the Schaaffhausen & Dietz tinware factory, amongst other things, known for his Rhineland landscapes, which he produced in sizes ranging from miniatures to large-format paintings; he is considered one of the leading figures of Rhenish Romanticism and one of the most important veduta painters from the Koblenz area of that period.
