Hendrik van Bloem, Autumn Landscape with Farmhouse View of colourfully changing deciduous trees in front of a faintly suggested farmhouse; a landscape painting with a slightly impasto texture; oil on canvas, c. 1900; signed ‘H. van Bloem", indistinct Dutch stamp on the back of the stretcher, old number label "4944" and annotation "No. 5.", in a magnificent gilded stucco frame, inner dimensions approx. 32.5 x 48 cm. Artist information: Dutch painter, etcher and draughtsman (1874, Amsterdam - 1960, Well), studied at the Quellinus School in Amsterdam, further trained under Théophile de Bock and George Jan Hendrik Poggenbeek, undertook study trips to Paris in 1913, London and Italy; later worked in Renkum, Gulpen, Bergen, The Hague, Bruges and Amsterdam, amongst other places; spent five years here as a set designer at the Dutch Opera under Jan Maandag; member of the artists’ associations Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and Pulchri Studio in The Hague, Source: Vollmer, AKL, Saur ‘Bio-Bibliographical Artists’ Encyclopaedia’, Busse and the internet.
