Richard Naumann-Coschütz, Summer in Saxon Switzerland A view of the rolling hills of Saxon Switzerland; in the foreground are four trees, one of which already has leaves beginning to change colour; a impasto-style painting in warm colours, mixed media (tempera and pencil) on cardboard, monogrammed ‘RNC’ in the bottom right-hand corner and dated 1929, the date partially obscured by the frame; dated again on the reverse as “23.07.1929”; slight signs of ageing; framed behind glass; inner dimensions 34 x 41 cm. Artist information: real name Max Richard Naumann, German writer, painter, draughtsman, graphic artist, bookplate and applied artist (1886 Freital - 1961 Dresden); initially trained as a lithographer from 1900, studied from 1909 at the Dresden Academy under Robert Sterl, Oskar Zwintscher, Richard Müller and Hermann Prell, 1919-22: master student under Ludwig von Hofmann; from 1923: worked as a freelance artist in Dresden; subsequently became a sensitive portrayer of the Dresden countryside, particularly Saxon Switzerland; based in Dresden-Coschütz; source: Student registers of the Dresden Academy and the internet.
