Manfred Feiler, Coastal Landscape A storm-lashed, rugged coastline with foaming surf and vegetation; in the background, mist-shrouded mountains, a thick, impressionistic landscape painting, partly executed using a palette knife, in muted colours, oil on canvas, c. 2000, signed ‘M. Feiler", numbered "14" on the reverse, slight signs of ageing, framed in a gold moulding that is partly coming away, inner dimensions approx. 30.5 x 60.5 cm. Artist information: German painter, designer and illustrator (1925, Plauen/Vogtland - 2020, Plauen), 1939-43: student at the Plauen Art School, mentored by Kurt Geipel and Walther Löbering; from 1943: military service during the Second World War and seriously wounded; after 1945: worked intermittently as an advertising designer and designer for textile companies; from 1952, worked as a freelance artist, with painting residencies in Venice and Mallorca; in 2011, appointed an honorary citizen of Plauen; based in Plauen.
