Anton Weinberger, Two Cats one sleeping and one looking at the viewer, watercolour and white overpainting on card, early 20th century, signed ‘A. Weinberger”, slight signs of wear, mounted in a passe-partout and marked in lead “No. 24/600.-”, passe-partout dimensions approx. 15.5 x 25 cm. Artist information: German animal and landscape painter (1843, Munich - 1912, Wiesbaden); studied from 1861 at the Munich Academy under Georg Hiltensperger and Alexander Strähuber, subsequently under August Schleich and August Erxleben; worked as an art teacher in Leipzig and, around 1872, in St Petersburg; later a pupil of Paul Meyerheim in Berlin; from 1884 worked for the Imperial Court in Vienna, subsequently working alternately in Munich and Wiesbaden, Source: Thieme-Becker, Boetticher, Register of the Munich Academy and the internet.
