Lovis Corinth, “Castle by the Lake” a castle standing on the shore of a mountain lake, from “Swiss Landscapes”, catalogue raisonné Müller 793, colour lithograph, 1923, signed “Lovis Corinth” in lead below the image on the right, minimal signs of ageing, framed with a passe-partout and behind glass, image dimensions approx. 13 x 18 cm. Artist information: born Franz Heinrich Louis Corinth, a leading German painter, lithographer and etcher (1858 Tapiau, East Prussia - 1925 Zandvoort), studied at the Königsberg Academy under Otto Günther and, from 1880, at the Munich Academy under Franz von Defregger and Ludwig von Loefftz; influenced by Wilhelm Trübner; trained as an etcher by Otto Eckmann; later in Paris under Bouguereau; alongside Max Liebermann and Max Slevogt, a leading member of the Berlin Secession; awarded the title of professor by the Berlin Academy of Arts in 1918; awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Königsberg in 1921; worked in Berlin and Urfeld on Lake Walchensee; sources: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, the Munich Academy’s register and the internet.
