Cornelis Bega, collection of etchings three sheets, ‘Peasant Woman Carrying a Basket’, Bartsch 18; ‘Farmer Lighting His Pipe’, Bartsch 20, and ‘The Dance’, Bartsch 26, etchings, mid-17th century, signs of age, each mounted on backing board, image dimensions max. 11.3 x 9 cm. Artist information: Cornelis Pietersz. Bega, Dutch painter and etcher (c. 1631, Haarlem - 1664), a pupil of Adriaen van Ostade; his complete body of print work comprises just 34 pieces depicting scenes of everyday life, 1653-54: travelled through Germany, Switzerland and France; from 1654: member of the Guild of St Luke in Haarlem; the artist’s works are held in almost all major museums in Europe, such as the Louvre in Paris and the Hermitage in St Petersburg; sources: Thieme-Becker and Wikipedia, amongst others.
