Augusto Murer, Female Half-Nude date unclear (19)81?, signed ‘A. Murer’ on the plinth and bearing the Venturi Arte foundry mark, numbered 4 P.A., dark-patinated bronze, a dynamic, fluid depiction of a young seated woman captured in a dynamic twist, with a textured surface, mounted on a wooden plinth, minor signs of age, L 32 cm. Included: exhibition catalogue, Augusto Murer, Commune di Ferrara, 1980. Artist’s biography: Italian sculptor, graphic artist and painter (1922, Falcade - 1985, Padua), attended the art school in Ortisei in Val Gardena in 1941; later a pupil of Arturo Martini at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice; regarded as one of the most significant Italian sculptors of the post-war period; works characterised by existential and political engagement stemming from his time as a partisan, preferred materials included wood and bronze; took part in major exhibitions (including the Rome Quadriennale); represented in numerous museums and in public spaces; founded the Studio Museo Augusto Murer in Falcade in 1972; worked in Falcade.
