Large ceremonial plate, Venice probably 16th century, unmarked, embossed brass, round plate with a flat, slightly domed centre; the flat rim is curved outwards and turned downwards, all richly engraved and hallmarked with stylised rolled acanthus leaves; in the centre, a depiction of the Lion of St Mark with an open book, bearing the inscription: “PAX TIBI MAR EVA GE LIST” (PAX TIBI MARCE EVANGELISTA MEUS - Peace be with you, Mark, my Evangelist), wall mounting on the reverse, signs of age and wear, D 43 cm.
